Privacy policy

This policy explains which personal data is processed when you use Semiterra, for what purposes, and what your rights are, in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the French Data Protection Act.

A website without accounts

Semiterra works without sign-up. We do not ask for your name, email address or password, and we do not build any profile.

Data stored in your browser

When you choose your town, Semiterra stores in your browser (local storage) the code of that town and, if you changed it, your last-frost date. This information is only used to find your garden again on your next visit. It is not sent to us and stays on your device. You can erase it at any time by clearing the site's browsing data in your browser.

Geolocation

If you use "Locate me", your browser asks for permission to share your position. It is only used to find the nearest town, through a calculation made in your browser: your position is not sent to any server and is not kept.

Cookies and audience measurement

Only with your consent, Semiterra uses Google Analytics 4 (Google Ireland Limited) to measure its traffic: pages viewed, visit length, where visitors come from (search engine, link…), device type and approximate country. These statistics are used only to improve the site: they are not used for advertising and we sell no data.

• Legal basis: your consent, asked for by a banner on your first visit. Declining is as easy as accepting, and the site works the same either way.
• Cookies set, only after you accept: _ga and _ga_<identifier>, which tell visitors apart pseudonymously, for 13 months at most. Google Analytics 4 does not store IP addresses.
• Retention: detailed statistics are kept for 14 months, then deleted.
• Transfers: Google may process this data in the United States, under the Data Privacy Framework.
• Your choice is saved in your browser for 6 months, then asked again. You can change it at any time with the "Manage cookies" link at the bottom of every page: if you withdraw your consent, measurement stops and the Analytics cookies are deleted.

Semiterra sets no advertising cookies.

Technical data

Like any website, our host receives technical data needed to display the pages and secure the service (IP address, browser type, requested pages). This data is processed by Google (Firebase Hosting), as host, on the basis of our legitimate interest in providing a working and secure website. Google may process it outside the European Union, under the safeguards provided by the GDPR (standard contractual clauses, Data Privacy Framework).

Your rights

You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, object to and port your data. As we keep no data identifying you, most of these requests involve no data on our side; you may nevertheless write to us at contact@semiterra.com.

You may also lodge a complaint with the French data protection authority, the CNIL (cnil.fr), or with the data protection authority of your country of residence.

Users in Switzerland and the United Kingdom

If you live in Switzerland, you also have the rights provided by the revised Federal Act on Data Protection (revFADP). If you live in the United Kingdom, you have the rights provided by the UK GDPR and may lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk). In both cases, the controller remains Veltone SAS, which you can contact at contact@semiterra.com.

This policy may change, in particular when new features are offered (account, newsletter). The date of the last update is shown at the top of the page.
